My Little Girl Growing Up

How is everybody? We are sending our big hellos from a very wet UK afternoon.
I also want to give my biggest congratulations to 9-6 mom for the birth of her gorgeous boy. Very proud of you sis!
And Madsaboutu, you are next. Very happy for you both.
(Although I can't help feeling envious. It could have also been me next in 4 weeks time if only miscarriage did not intervene last March).

Anyway, as my blog title says, my little girl is getting bigger and smarter. They just grow so quick, don't they?
A month before my little girl  turned 2, she can only utter a few words. There was not even a mum word yet.
I remember writing all her words in my cellphone to tell the health visitor of her progress on her 2nd birthday.
As soon as she turned 2, she was just unstoppable.
The words first became phrases then to proper sentences.
Gone are the book chewing but came the nights of book reading. When I say book, it means a dozen of books at bedtime.
Here is a video of my little girl at 27 months old.

She also amazed me knowing all her body parts although she had perfected it before her 2nd birthday. Here she is at 21 months old.

Next were the vegetables. At 27 months old she can already identify even the most difficult ones such as cauliflower, broccoli, aubergine, pumpkin and artichoke!

Next were the numbers. She not can only say/recite  from 1-14 but can identify/read  1-10. I am just gobsmacked!
As with the animals came the shapes, colour, fruits and all the pictures in her books.
She can also name not just herself but her parents, grandparents, home address, age, her favourite shows and food. (I have a video but just won't upload).
She is also showing an interest in singing. We caught her several times singing her favourite songs.
I am proud of her uttering perfectly the lyrics of 12345 Once I caught a  Fish Alive, Eency Weency Spider, Row, Row Your Boat,  Round the Garden and Baa Baa Black Sheep.
Her interest also extended towards dancing. She now attends a contemporary dance lessons every Saturday morning.
I am very proud of her (and myself!)  of her developments as she all just learned this at home. She never goes to a nursery group,  only playgroups 1-2/week during term time.

And, we are now into our 2nd week of potty training and progressing very well.
We are proud to say that we are a totally nappy free day for  10 days now.
Nappy time is only reserved  for bedtime and going out time - although my little girl still insists on the toilet use.

As soon as she turned 2, she quickly learned to inform us if there is something on her nappy.
We told her to try doing it on the potty but she always refuses so we waited.
Two months after, she would tell us before anything happens. Like warning us to get ready. But still refuses the potty when offered.

A month after,  as soon as her nappy was wet or soiled, she gets irritated when it is not changed quickly, so we know she is in fact very ready.
She can even hold off  a wee so we know it is definitely the time for toilet training.

But as everybody would often say - every child's development is different so I did not stress on rushing her with the toilet training.
And I've learned not to compare my child with other children based on mother's stories(sometimes exaggerated)  because it will only leave me feeling inadequate and useless as a mother.

Then at 31 months old, the time has finally arrived.
With the help of  Mothercare's training pants - Mickey Mouse and Upsy Daisy of course!, the Mickey Mouse potty has finally been put into use.
And she eases into it quickly. She only used training pants for a week then switches to proper knickers in just a weeks time of potty training.
She can control her bladder and runs to her potty on her own. Pull down her pants and pull it up after.
Bedtime,  even with a nappy on, she still wants to use the potty and calls for it   as soon as she wakes up in the morning so we are left with an almost very dry nappy.

We went to playgroup last Tuesday and she was on a Huggies pull ups.
Moments later, she tells me she wants to do a wee. I told her she can do it in her nappy as she's wearing one, but no, she wants to go the toilet. And that was the first time she sat on the  grown up toilet seat  and performed her deed. Again, amazed and  very proud of her. And so was during shopping yesterday.

We seem very successful in the wee department.
The pooing is a different story.
She still could not do it in the potty and runs to her room to get a nappy and goes mad telling me to put it on her.
But just like refusing the potty at first, I know it will take time and I know it won't be long till we can totally get rid of the nappy.

At least we've done the first half of the toilet training and we are not far from finishing it.
After all, we are still on our second week!

And at 31  months old weighing 32 lbs and measuring 89 cms (just  2 cms. short  from 3 feet) my little girl is indeed growing up. So grown up that I get more attached to her.
Just this morning, I lacked  the courage of sending her away with her grandparents to a weekend getaway in Somerset.
We are attending a sponsored charity ball  with a provided hotel accommodation in Birmingham tomorrow evening. Yet,  despite  knowing the fact  she would only be away from us  for 2 nights only  (as we are picking her up Sunday), and she is in a very good, trusted hands, I still could not warm up to the idea of being away from her.
I was so stressed I could hardly sleep last night. I am scared if something bad happens to her, I just could not forgive myself.
So, for 2 years in a row now, we've cancelled again on the charity ball. At least last year we were stuck in the Scottish highlands - which is about 11 hours drive away!
But  I am happy to have cancelled on it again. I may miss the ball fun but surely, I am more than happy and relaxed in the company of my little girl.
Thankfully, I did not buy any new dress or a pair of shoes, otherwise it would be a different story!

Happy weekend everyone!

Everything but the Baby

My last doctor's visit was little bit of a surprise to me.  My doctor told me I might deliver the baby any time now.   I was told that I was 2 cm dilated and my cervix is effaced. I panicked for a moment because I was only 37 weeks and I have been procrastinating these past few days, but I must admit that some excitement crept a little bit on me.  I came home telling DH to get that car seat out and installed in the car...although some part of me still thinks this baby is going to take its sweet time to come out to just test my patience for a while.
Here's my recent belly picture:
There is really no more room for him in there

This weekend, we finally got the nursery in place.  We have decided we were going for a All About Science theme.  I ordered the crib bedding set in Robots and used a Breathable baby bumper to cover the gaps on the rails.

I heart Robots
Do you see the mobile set? I made those myself.  I used Legos and glued them together so it doesn't get undone when the kid starts pulling at it later.  Of course, the mobile stand was from my DD's old ladybug mobile set that I kept.

The wall art was from my DH and yours truly.  My MIL had an old drawing that my DH made when he was 5 years old.  She had it framed and gave it to him his as a graduation present when he received his PhD.   It says "Thing: I want to be a Scientist" I thought it was cute.

Then there's that other painting of mine when I was bored one day. I am hoping, USA will once again be the first person for this mission to Mars!
Who would think I can draw, let alone make out a painting?
I also started organizing the closet.  I have washed all the newborn- 3 months clothes so far.
Then of course, the changing table and all those diapers that I will be using...

Sorry...I can't get myself to using cloth diapers!
Madison also took the time to sort out some of her books from her bookshelf and gave up the baby books she had and arranged this for the baby herself.

And off we go! We are all set...everything is here, but the Baby! I swear, if he does not come out in two weeks...I will serve him an eviction notice!

That's it for now...hopefully, I have the baby on my next post!:P  Have a great week everyone!

My Surprise Baby Shower & Parents Exhibition 2012

....It was a surprise that was built with many lies, but I am glad to have this Surprise Baby Shower!

A week before, my good friend Andrea invited us (hubby and myself) for dinner last Saturday in Royal Scotts Hotel, I happily said yes because I don't want to cook and who wants to say NO to good and free dinner right?

It was a perfect weekend......in the morning we decided to go to this Parents Exhibition 2012 at Singapore Expo.  This event is similar to the Motherhood Exhibition which I attended last May or June.  It was a 3 days sale also starting from 31 August to 2 September from parenting products to maternity goods.  They even have booths for insurance, stem cord banking, investments, and even post natal massage packages.

Parents World Exhibition 2012 @ Singapore Expo

I can say that the Motherhood Exhibition is better than Parents World Exhibition, previous event have better brands and more product choices... I only bought two items: BabyBjorn Carrier and a mattress.

Baby Carrier Miracle Airy Mesh at S$280.00 (u.p. S$329)

After shopping, we went straight home so we can prepare for dinner.  I was really looking forward to this dinner because I was really disappointed with our  lunch.  The food and service was awful at Macau Express, it is better to eat in Kopitiam!

Anwyay...on the way to dinner, Andrea called us and she said that she need my hubbys help to fix their faucet, so we need to park inside their place.. Bitchy me, I was complaining and Hello! can we just fix it after the dinner because I am hungry again!

.....and suddenly "Surprise!"

it must be the hormones...such a cry baby!

Here are some of the pictures..

Mayet said she baked the cupcakes, but I don't believe it lol..

I'm still here!

It's been a while since I last posted but I'm still around.  Just trying to get little things done before my baby's arrival.  My DD started kindergarten and that got me a little busy for quite some time.  Although having my daughter in school did give me plenty of time to sit around the house shopping online and driving out for stuff that I can't seem to find online.  I bought this lunch box for DD to match the backpack she already owns.

Then there's the situation with my dog...which will with no doubt run me out of my money.  He was just diagnosed with Bladder stones and now he is scheduled for a surgery.  Who would have thought Canine cystotomy would cost about $1700?!Holy cow.

He looks so sad...Don't worry Troy, you will get anesthesia!
So just to update, I am finally posting my hospital gown to have baby#2 in.  I was tempted to order something blue but decided against anything pastel or light colors...you'll never know when it's time to get it all messy.

Recently, I have had trouble sleeping at night and started getting cramps because I keep sleeping in the wrong position.  I already pile up 3 pillows underneath me but it wasn't working, I decided to get a body pillow.  I was thinking of getting those maternity pillows but with 5 weeks to go, why bother? At least this one, I can still use post pregnancy.

While I was at it, I decided to get some new bedding sets as well.  I love anything that has embroidery so I can't help it.
California King size bedding sets, one in cream and and another in dark purple
I have plenty of explaining to do to my hubby when he sees my credit card bill this month.  I started buying more baby clothes, room decor and storage organizers, custom crib bedding but they are not shipped yet so I am starting to panic.  I still have five more weeks to go but I am stressing out that my little boy's nursery is not ready!  I did find some cute eco-friendly toys while I was out shopping today.  I know my baby won't need this until another year or so...but...I am very impulsive. I just thought they were really cute.  And of course, it helps that they are made of recycled materials.

And a dinosaur bank! It's never too early for my kid to start saving some money!:)

I had to drive to the Filipino bakery because I just suddenly had a craving for this.
Kutsinta!
Oh yum!  Anyway, I gotta go pick up my DD from school.  Until next time! :P

French Holiday Part IV: Paris

Hello everyone.
Finally, here is the fourth and final installment of our French Holiday and apology if it took me a week to finish it. Was just busy with things lately.
But please be warned that this is going to be a very lengthy one.
Anyway, what better way to conclude a French Holiday than in its very beautiful capital, the city of romance- Paris?!
Both Dearest Husband and I had already visited  this captivating city in the past on our own, respectively. (He, with friends on several occasions for  a rugby match and I, once on a business trip.)
But this one, is our first time together as a family and it was just wonderful.

Before I share some of our pictures, let me tell you about our  experience with Best Western Hotel.

When Dearest Husband  booked us at the said hotel  I did not object because of the following reasons:
1st: I had a pleasant stay at a Best Western Hotel  on 2 separate business trips  in the past  - 1 in Las Vegas and 1 in Amsterdam so naturally I expected the same quality ; 2nd, it was near Disneyland and there is a shopping mall nearby; 3rd, with a car with us we naturally wanted a hotel car park and the train station in the area is just perfect for us going to the city and 4th, convenient for us to go to Versailles without enduring the city's traffic jam.

So bearing all of these in mind, we were anticipating for a gratifying stay only to be disappointed.
It was smelly and dirty. Very poor decor and there was no air conditioning unit.
It was such a struggle especially as the weather was just so humid.
And lastly, the bar and restaurant are close at weekends, how inconvenient!
It was such a poor value and we don't think this is good representation of a Best Western in general.
Nevertheless, we tried our best to abide with this situation especially us our stay was already fully paid in advance and  is non refundable.
But in the end we were forced to cut short our stay by 3 days and moved to another hotel  in the city centre at an additional expense of course.
We have contacted Best Western and lodged our discontent but we were told the said hotel is no longer part of their chain since 1998.
We were of course surprise because it didn't say anything when we booked it and the logos and literatures of the said hotel chain is still being used during our stay.
But when probed further, they came back to us saying it is still part of their chain. Just how confusing this is!
But anyway, we've had enough of them now and we enjoyed our Paris escapades anyway especially as the new hotel we stayed at was far more suitable for us.

No Paris trip would be complete without the sight and seeing of its famous landmarks:

Below picture I believe does not require any introduction at all as obviously it is a very famous world structure -the Eiffel Tower! Although I have already seen this landmark before, it is still very mesmerizing.

A great family photo on our very first Parisian holiday

.

Despite the scorching heat, my little girl is without a doubt enjoying the scenery.

And mummy must have a solo picture of course!

My little girl when she first laid eyes on the famous structure. This would make a very good souvenir picture.

I wanted to capture in my camera the beauty of Eiffel Tower at night.
It is such a sight to behold. Like a rotating giant Christmas Tree sharing its splendid lights to the rest of the city.
Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity this time. Next time perhaps.

Another famous landmark - the Notre Dame de Paris.

All good attempts to have a good picture together by the Arc de Triomphe

We also took part in the River Seine Cruise. It was a very informative experience.

Of course Little Girl must not be left out although Dearest Husband said he put hers on the Chinese Audio.
Still,  it appears she is listening to it attentively!

Madsaboutu requested for me to take plenty of pictures.
I tried my best juggling my camera with either a very active toddler or pushing her stroller.
Here are some I managed:

River Seine

Paris Plage or Paris Beach. Temporary artificial beach along the stretches of River Seine every July-August

Paris on a busy Summer day

Just some of the great Parisian architecture

I just love how this hotel adorned itself with beautiful flowers

Cafes everywhere. A typical Parisian street with a long stretch of an array of cafes.

And speaking of cafes, what best way to also enjoy Paris than through its food.
Paris is famous for its bistros and cafes. And we did have a good time with them.
Dearest Husband and I would be having a drink in one cafe and moved to another one after a few minutes just to have varied experiences especially as the cafes have different themes.

Mummy and Little Girl one rainy Sunday afternoon just outside our hotel at La Cafe Pierre.
They serve delicious food and the cafe is decorated with ballet pictures.

The cafe interior

Just one of the many ballet pictures that adorned the walls of Le Cafe Pierre.
The names of the model and the photographer is in a sign by the door.

Another cafe, another drink on the same area. At Le Bastille Bar.

Another day, another cafe with a Venetian theme. Et Etoile Venetienne Cafe.
.

In one of Dearest Husbands favourite Restaurant- Au Chien Qui Fume Seafood Restaurant.
It is a dog theme restaurant with pictures and figurines all over the place although they don't serve dog meat of course!
The food is just heavenly! I had the Fisherman's Hotpot all to myself!

Another evening, another lovely cafe. Soufflot Cafe in the Latin Quartier.

The interiors of Soufflot Cafe graced with book cases and framed pictures of itself.
t
I can go on with the cafes and restaurants that we went to but I think that would be over the top.
And there are just too many to mention.

Lastly, we also went to Le Puces (Paris Flea Market).
I had a great time although Dearest Husband wasn't particularly feeling well.
The antiques shops were abundant and most of the prices were just out of  our reach.
The antiques part of this flea market is off limits to camera so I have no pictures to share.
There was also another side to Le Puces that is within the masses reach. Hundreds of stalls of different merchandise. From clothing, shoes, perfumes and a lot more.
I managed to buy some dresses and tops for myself.
Some may not be suitable as a going out outfit but for a stay at home mum they are definitely perfect for me when Little Girl and I are just cuddling/playing inside our humble abode.

There we go, I've finally shared our Paris antics. I hope you find it interesting. Have a very good weekend everyone and Good night!
